A Search for Pulsed and Bursty Radio Emission from X-ray Dim Isolated Neutron Stars
We have carried out a search for radio emission from six X-ray dim isolated neutron stars (XDINSs) observed with the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Radio Telescope (GBT) at 820 MHz. No bursty or pulsed radio emission was found down to a 4σ significance level. The corresponding flux limit is 0.01–0.04 mJy depending on the integration time for the particular source and pulse duty cycle of 2%. These ar...
متن کاملA tale of two populations: Rotating Radio Transients and X-ray Dim Isolated Neutron Stars
We highlight similarities between recently discovered Rotating Radio Transients and X-ray Dim Isolated Neutron Stars. In particular, it is shown that X-ray Dim Isolated Neutron Stars have a birthrate comparable to that of Rotating Radio Transients. On the contrary, magnetars have too low a formation rate to account for the bulk of the radio transient population. The consequences of the recent d...
متن کاملThe XMM-Newton view of radio-quiet and X-ray dim isolated neutron stars
As part of the guaranteed time, guest observer and calibration programs, XMM-Newton extensively observed a group of six thermally emitting, isolated neutron stars which are neither connected with a supernova remnant nor show pulsed radio emission. The high statistical quality of the EPIC data allows a detailed and homogeneous analysis of their temporal and spectral properties. Four of the six s...
متن کاملDeep VLT infrared observations of X-ray Dim Isolated Neutron Stars
Context. X-ray observations have unveiled the existence of a family of radio-quiet Isolated Neutron Stars whose X-ray emission is purely thermal, hence dubbed X-ray Dim Isolated Neutron Stars (XDINSs). While optical observations have allowed to relate the thermal emission to the neutron star cooling and to build the neutron star surface thermal map, IR observations are critical to pinpoint a sp...
متن کاملNew Limits on Radio Emission from X-ray Dim Isolated Neutron Stars
We have carried out a search for radio emission at 820 MHz from six X-ray dim isolated neutron stars with the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Radio Telescope. No transient or pulsed emission was found using fast folding, fast Fourier transform, and single-pulse searches. The corresponding flux limits are about 0.01 mJy for pulsed emission, depending on the integration time for the particular source a...
